CTI-CFF Meetings Review Gaps, Challenges of Program ImplementationCatch of the Week
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) hosted back-to-back meetings from 9 to 11 September 2014 in Manila, Philippines, supporting the Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries and Food Security (CTI-CFF).
The first meeting was on stock take and investment coordination, followed by a Development Partners Meeting on the second day, and closing with the Financial Resources Working Group (FRWG) Meeting on the final day.
The meetings guided decisions on future programming directions and partnership development for the CTI-CFF through refinement and consolidation of strategic priorities and actions related to CTI-CFF programs and projects. The first day served as a starting point on discussions about the program as it approaches its mid-point after five years since inception. This would be the first time for the development partners to meet as a diverse group to map out the next phase.
On the second day, development partners and CTI collaborators shared their ongoing and future investments specifically on how these contributed to CTI-CFF goals. Opportunities to advance their respective initiatives demonstrated areas for collaboration and synergies among participating agencies.
Key priorities and strategic directions and resource requirements were presented by the working groups on seascapes, ecosystem-based approaches to fisheries management, marine protected areas, climate change adaptation, threatened species as well as by the working groups covering three cross-cutting themes on coordinating mechanisms and financial resources working group.
The inputs of the participants during the discussions would help advance processes related to meeting the working groups’ financial commitments towards their plans and budgets. The FRWG meeting focused on the presentation of the Financial Architecture study commissioned by ADB, which was undertaken through consultations with the CTI National Focal Points in the CT6 countries. Key decision points for each of the WGs were also identified for presentation during the Senior Officials’ Meeting in Dili, Timor Leste on 5 to 7 November 2014.
