ASEAN Fisheries and Aquaculture Conference and Exposition 2016


(Conference: 3-7 August, 2016) The Department of Fisheries, Thailand, in collaboration with the Asian Fisheries Society, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Regional Office for the Asia and the Pacific, INFOFISH, the Network of Aquaculture Centres in the Asia-Pacific, and the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center and partners are proud to host the ASEAN Fisheries and Aquaculture Conference and Exposition 2016: ASEAN Seafood for the World and the 11th Asian Fisheries and Aquaculture Forum and Exhibition: Asian Food Security for the World from 3 to 7 August 2016, at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre in Bangkok, Thailand. We also welcome traders, producers, scientists, researchers from around the world to attend this remarkable exposition and conference.

The Asian Fisheries and Aquaculture Forum provides an international platform for distinguished scientists from all over the world to discuss the issues pertaining to sustainable fisheries and aquaculture in the Asia-Pacific Region. The forum has been convened ten times to date, around the ASEAN region.

The Exposition will be held from 3 to 7 August, 2016, at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC), Bangkok, Thailand.

Forum format

The forum will be a mixture of key note speeches, participant presentations, posters and plenary discussions. Invited speakers from around the world will share their experiences and lessons-learned in fisheries and aquaculture. Participants from all over Asia and elsewhere will showcase recent advances in fisheries and aquaculture research and development in Asia.


The theme of the 11th AFAF is ASEAN Seafood for the World & Asian Food Security for the World. Presentations and discussion will be organised into six thematic sessions plus the 6th Global Symposium on Gender in Aquaculture and Fisheries (GAF6), which will be run in parallel.

Submission of abstracts is until 15 April, 2016.

Forum programme

The programme will run for three and a half days (3 – 6 August 2016) with a welcome reception on 4 August 2016. The programme will include:
• Thematic plenary session with distinguished speakers from the fisheries and aquaculture and gender community and beyond.

• Thematic concurrent sessions selected from individual abstracts.

• Poster presentations –and a poster competition.


The Forum Marketplace will provide a networking hub where participants can rent a stall or table to display publications, make known their organization, promote specific projects, exchange proposals and generally make contacts:

• Exposition area 7,750 m2 with 450 booths (3×3 m).
• More than 10,000 visitors are expected.
• Targeting exhibitors from international fish producers, traders, processors, and equipment suppliers, as well as food service and catering operators.
• Meeting with ASEAN local producers and SMEs.

The welcome reception (4th August, evening) will provide the first opportunity for contacts with colleagues. The evening of 5th August is free but the member of the Asian Fisheries Society will have their General Assembly. The last plenary and closing ceremony will be on 6th August. The Forum Farewell Dinner will take place on 6th August. Departure of Forum participants will be on Sunday, 7th August.
